Ready to Learn About Conflict
With a major grant from PBS and the Heinz Family Foundation,
we created the Ready to Learn About Conflict project
for parents of young children. Working with an advisory
board of experts in early childhood and violence prevention,
we used existing children’s PBS shows and produced
our our video segments for use in four workshops for
parents. We provided a one-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop
for 130 PBS Station Outreach coordinators and their
community partners so that they could implement workshops
in their communities.
Puzzle
Place
Our most comprehensive experience with outreach for
an early childhood program was from 1995 - 1998 with
KCET and Lancit Media’s The
Puzzle Place, a PBS children’s series focusing
on diversity. This project included the following elements:
| 1. |
Two-day training workshops for PBS
station outreach coordinators (We implemented nine
workshops with a monthly follow-up component over
four years.) |
| |
|
| 2. |
100-page guide for child care providers containing
diversity information and classroom activities |
| |
|
| 3. |
Training Manual to enable trainers to facilitate
diversity-focused workshops for child care providers |
| |
|
| 4. |
16-page booklet for parents |
